English isn't superior to any other language. The discrimination that foreigners and ESL (English as a second language) learners face truly disturbs me. I can't imagine the pain of having to deal with this. Anytime I hear "speak English" being said it reminds me of the Native American languages that are endangered, the discrimination that Asian people have faced since the start of the pandemic (and way before that), the racism that latino/as and hispanics have faced in America, the missing and murdered Native American women.
I will keep defending whoever I can when I witness this ugly phrase being thrown at them, and you should too! Yoruba, Arabic, Spanish, Chinese, Cherokee, no matter what you speak, speak it with pride. Land of the free and right to speak freely but no right to speak your Native language?? It's absolute bull-. If we conformed to the way of "society" the world would be disgusting and boring. Languages are a pool of beauty, knowledge, and culture. It's no one's business about what language comes out of your mouth, how your accent sounds, or how much English you speak.
"Go back to where you came from" any racist that throws around this phrase must not know anything about history. They probably wouldn't even believe it if they were told that their own ancestors and family aren't originally from here.
"In America we-" we what? Allow kids to go hungry because of school lunch debt? Tell children their natural hair needs to be straightened? Force darker skinned celebrities to bleach in order to sell music? Forced Native American students in boarding schools to force English and European culture upon them? What do "we" do in America that's so special? It's insulting and racist to tell anyone what language to speak. "American" language or America's language isn't ENGLISH! The United States of America has no official language, even if English is vastly spoken here. Spanish is the second most spoken language here, yet Spanish speakers face so much discrimination about where they come from, how and what they speak, and how they look. It's absolutely absurd to even begin to fathom the racism. The ability to speak multiple languages is such a blessing and I wish love and happiness on everyone that has had to go through discrimination, racism, and harassment.
Fact: Did you know that Native Americans created a universal sign language known as Hand Talk before Europeans invented one of their own?
Support Native, Latino/a, Black, and Asian owned businesses and people! Defend and protect others when you witness them going through racism, colorism, featurism, harassment, and discrimination. Teach yourself about racism, stereotypes, and the struggles people of color go through. Learn about the things that schools lied about or didn't tell you. Spread the message about ways to help.

Please learn about the experiences Native Americans had to endure at boarding schools.

Speaking your native language is a blessing so don't let idiots discourage you from doing so!
