Non indigenous people: We can educate yourselves, learn true history, donate, listen to Indigenous people and survivors, and support Indigenous people! The disrespect and morbid treatments that Canada and the US give Indigenous people shall continue to come to light for all to see. There are over 500 Indigenous tribes and all are unique. No race is a monolith. They are here and they deserve respect, equal rights, land, love, and help.
Praying for all the families affected and sending love to all Indigenous people. Getting help is not something to be ashamed of.
what happened?
Tw(trigger warning)/ death, genocide
Canada and the US has a long history of abusing the rights of, committing genocide against, refusing to help, lying about the history of, silencing, erasing and appropriating the culture of, and forcing Indigenous people into boarding schools. In fact, so many lies are spread about Indigenous people that some people actually believe they don't exist anymore or that they were violent when protecting themselves. It's absolutely atrocious to hear the lies. The boarding schools Indigenous kids were forced into was another way of erasing Indigenous culture.
At these "schools", Indigenous people weren't allowed to wear their traditional clothing, banned from celebrating their culture, forced into getting haircuts (hair is special in Indigenous cultures- read more about it.) banned from practicing their own religion or speaking their Native language, and forced to adopt a eurocentric way of life. Children were taken from their homes and abused, sent into horrid living conditions, and stripped of their culture. For years, many Indigenous people tried to speak up but were silenced or ignored. Recently, the remains of 215 children from Kamloops Indian Residential School. The last residential school to close closed in 1996. People need to stop acting like all is well and that Indigenous people are being treated correctly.

Racism, xenophobia when they belong here more than any stupid racist and appropriation
The Us and Canada continue to hurt Indigenous people daily so please don't act like this is a thing in the past.
During this time, don't expect any Indigenous people to teach you about what's going on. They need time to mourn and they don't have to teach anyone anything. It's your job to educate yourself about what's going on.
Approximately 6,000 angels died due to abuse and neglect while in residential schools. The Indian Residential School settlement uncovered around 140 schools across Canada.

Ways to help:
Don't use racist terms like sav*ge, redskin, injun, spirit animal, chief. Learn about cultural appropriation against Natives. Unlearn untrue statements, be respectful to everyone and defend victims of racism, sexism, xenophobia and call it out, do not create "Native inspired" products (this is appropriating and takes away from actual Native creators), be careful about what terms you use (some Indigenous people do not like to be called Indians), amplify Native voices and listen to survivor stories.
